Adding New Pages to WordPress

To create a page, click on or hover over the pages button on the side bar of your dashboard, and click Add New.

Begin by creating a title on the new page and then press tab on your keyboard, or click in the text editor with your mouse, to jump down to the Text Editor.
This is where you will add the content that you would like to be displayed in the body of your page.

When you are satisfied with the content of you page, you can click Preview to preview the layout of your page; Save draft for later reviews and revisions; or Publish and your content will go live on your site for immediate use.

Adding Media to WordPress

To upload new files (such as images and videos) to your media library, navigate to Media in your side bar and select Add New. This will take you to the Multi-file Uploader. You can upload files simply by dropping them in the designated box, or by clicking on Select Files, which will show a drop down menu where you can choose your files.
If your browser is having trouble using the Multi-file Uploader, there is an option to use an older version of the uploader that is easier on browsers.

When you drop a file into the uploader, a progress bar will come up. When it finishes, you can click Edit, which will bring you to the media editor; from there, you may make modifications as you wish.

Adding Images to your Media Gallery

To create a gallery, go to Add Media in your post editor; on the side you will an option called Create Gallery – all of your previously uploaded images will be available here, just select the ones you would like to include and click Create a New Gallery.

You will then be brought to the Gallery editor, where you can give your pictures captions or change the order of appearance by dragging them around. By default, galleries are set to Attachment Page, which allows users to flip through your images. You can also set this to Media File, which will display the image at full resolution, but if you only want the gallery viewable from the post, you can set it to None.
You can also specify how many columns you would like your images to be in. Checking Random Order will display your images in a random order each time the page is opened.

When you are finished, click Insert Gallery; you will be able to see a preview of your gallery right in your editor. If you ever need to edit your gallery, simply click it and select the edit icon.

Add Image From URL to WordPress

If there is an image you would like to use for your post, but don’t want to have to download it and re-upload it onto your site, you can use the image’s URL to embed the picture into your post.

First, find an image you would like to use. Right click on the image, and select “Copy Image ULR” (depending on your browser, it may say “Copy Image Address” or “Copy Image Location”).

Now, when you go back to the editor, you will go to “Add Media” and select “Insert from URL”. Right click in the address box, and select “Paste”. This will bring up a thumbnail for the link, and from here you can add some information for you image and adjust its post settings. When you are done, select “Insert into Post”.

Since the image is not actually on your server, you do not have full control over it. If someone changes or deletes the image from the original server, your image will be effected.

You can then either preview your post, or publish.

Uploading images to WordPress

Adding images to your posts not only help to get the point of your content across, but also add to your site’s look and overall completeness!

To upload an image into your post, you can simply drag a picture from your desktop right into your content editor. The image will automatically be uploaded and selected, so that you may adjust its settings.
(Alternatively, you can go to “Upload Files” and use the “Select Files” option to upload images.)

When you are happy with your selection, click “Insert into post”.

How to Add Images from Media Library

If you already have in your media library that you would like to add to your post, simply click “add media” in your editor. WordPress gives you the option to add your own media, but if you click the next tab you will have access to all your previously uploaded content in your media library.

Just select the image you want, adjust the settings how you like, and click “insert into post”. Your image will automatically be added to wherever your cursor was in the post. You can then click preview to see how your post will look, or hit publish to make your post public.

How to add a heading in WordPress

Heading styles not only give your viewers a better visual representation of what the important points of what your post and pages really are, they also help search engines determine the important content on your site, helping improve your visibility.

To create headings, use the styling options drop-down menu in the first row of the toolbar (the default styling is “Paragraph”). Highlight the text you would like to modify, and use the drop-down menu to select a different style. By default, WordPress offers six different heading styles for highlighting points on your content or for separating topics on the same page – Heading 1 is usually the largest and most important, incrementally scaling down for each of following headings.

When your content is formatted as you would like it to appear on your site, remember to save or publish your content!

Browser Cache Quick Tip

If you are a web developer or even a heavy browser user you have probably run into a browser cache issue over time. I know I am constantly dealing with clearing my browser history because my WordPress security plugin logged me out of WP Dashboard. This is a huge pain to go into chrome settings select just cache and only the past hour so that I can keep all my good browser history.

Today I found a solution. I looked around for some browser Cache clearing plugins for Chrome and tested a few hour. I landed on Clear Cache by Benjamin Bojko. This plugin gives me a quick icon next to the address bar that I can simply click and it clears my Cache. The cool think about Benjamin Bojko Clear Cache plugin is that I can configure it to only remove the Browser data that I want. So I have it set to only delete cookies and Cache that are 1 hour old. Having it configured like that gives me a very fast way to clear the data I want cleared from my browser when i am working on something.

I also allow the plugin for use in incognito mode, I am not sure yet if that will provide me with any additional benefits or not.

You can find this plugin in the Chrome Store if you want to try it out.

I hope you found this article helpful.

Key Considerations for Outsourcing Technical Support

Companies of all sizes outsource aspects of their business to save time and money. The benefits seem obvious: from marketing and human resources to tech services, outsourcing is one way to streamline business processes effectively. And outsourcing is on the rise, with technical support being one of the areas experiencing the most growth. In fact, the technical support outsourcing market is expected to grow 6 percent by the year 2020. This includes both call center and helpdesk support. But how can you know whether your company stands to benefit from outsourcing technical support processes? First, it is helpful to understand just what it entails.

According to Udemy, outsourcing is the practice of delegating work to another person or organization, usually a third party that isn’t associated with your business. It requires you to entrust a portion of your business processes to an external resource. The same Udemy article points out that most organizations adopt outsourcing for the following reasons:

  • Unavailability of in-house expertise
  • Cutting costs in the short or long term
  • Better management of in-house workflow

To put it simply, many companies stand to benefit from outsourcing technical support because staffing an in-house team requires more capital investment and infrastructure, along with increased human resources costs. The following is a more in-depth look at why companies like yours should consider transitioning to an outsourced technical support model.

  • It’s cost effective. When companies outsource, they eliminate the costs associated with hiring employees. This can include training resources, health insurance, management oversight and more. It can also free up capital funds. Because you are outsourcing processes that aren’t essential to your business, you can better allocate resources on items that are more central. And you’ll have less overhead.
  • Better customer service is available. Outsourcing your technical support team means that services are available around the clock, at a fraction of the cost of hiring full-time employees. In addition, you will have access to services and solutions you may not have considered before. Your support team will be able to monitor your systems 24/7, identifying problems and addressing them before they affect other areas of your business.
  • It improves business focus. When you outsource technical support, your employees can focus on their core responsibilities rather than trying to cover multiple areas at once. Outsourcing vendors are trained in IT specifically, so they are better equipped to deal with challenges as they arise. Trying to keep up with the tech aspects of your business can be expensive and time consuming, and mistakes are common. Specialized outsourcing partners reduce your risk of making the wrong decision. You’ll increase staff productivity and enable your company to become more flexible, agile and dynamic.
  • You can increase the talent pool. When you choose to outsource technical support, you have the ability to access skilled tech professionals and the collective experience of a dedicated IT team. You can be sure they have the right training and certifications to do the job. This gives you a competitive advantage as well. While you may not know what to look for when hiring for technical positions, outsourcing vendors do. You can also access the right talent without worrying about geographic location.

If you decide to outsource your technical support, it is important to hire the right team and develop a good working relationship with them. The following are some aspects to keep in mind as you begin the process of hiring an outsourcing vendor. To complete the process effectively:

  • Be able to communicate the goals and objectives of your project.
  • Have a strategic plan for your relationship with the outsourcing partner.
  • Consider asking for references and do your research to determine reputation.
  • Outline all expectations involved, including finances.
  • Ensure that lines of communication are open.
  • Get buy-in from stakeholders and other decision-makers.
