What is a Private Cloud and What Are The Benefits?

Before we dig into the details of a private cloud, let’s look at general cloud hosting and what it can do. General cloud hosting enables you to create servers quickly, resize them as you need, copy and scale-out identical copies, and move them around. In a general cloud environment, you or your business is being hosted on hardware with tons of other cloud servers. As you can imagine, a room full of cloud servers can get pretty loud. To avoid those noisy neighbors and co-mingling with other tenants, many people turn to a private cloud. A private cloud settles those issues by providing a singular server with many benefits and features.

A private cloud is one of three general models for cloud deployment in an organization: public, private, and hybrid. These three models share basic elements of cloud infrastructure. In the IT world, all clouds need some type of operating system to function. The different types of software used on the operating systems are what determines how the cloud will function. This is what distinguishes the three different models and how they are used.

What is it?

A private cloud is a single-tenant environment. This means that the organization using it (the tenant) does not share resources with other users. The resources in this type of cloud environment can be hosted and managed in many different ways. It will also allow you to divide up your server as you see fit, have granular control over CPU cores, RAM, and disk space. This is a viable option for many different organizations, such as businesses, developers, and resellers. Private clouds are often used when public clouds are deemed inappropriate for business.

What are the types?

A private cloud is divided into three sections, each providing different functions. Each section is managed and hosted differently.

Virtual: A private cloud computing environment located inside of a public cloud that enables you to experience the benefits of a virtualized network while using public cloud resources.

Hosted: In a hosted private cloud model, the servers are not shared with other organizations. The service provider maintains the hardware, configures the network, and updates the software. In this environment, the infrastructure, data center facilities, power and cooling, and much more are provided by the service provider.

Managed: This is a hosted environment in which the provider manages every aspect of the cloud, such as organization, identity management and storage. This is a great option for organizations and businesses that do not have the staff to manage a private cloud environment.

What are the benefits?

The biggest advantage of using a private cloud is that users don’t share resources. This cloud computing model fits best with businesses with unpredictable computing needs that demand for complete control over their environment.

Organizations and businesses who run their IT systems in a private cloud environment are guaranteed most of the same benefits found in a public cloud, such as scalability, self-service, flexibility, resource availability, security, regulatory compliance, and cost savings. It also allows the ability to provision, configure VMs (virtual machines), and modify computing resources on demand.

Private clouds deliver a higher level of security and privacy through company firewalls and internal hosting to ensure that sensitive data is not accessible to third party providers. In addition to these benefits, you will have an increased capability for customization, increased performance due to resources being dedicated to one organization, and have incredible security due to the isolated network. Businesses that operate using the public cloud run the risk of co-mingling with multiple other tenants.

It is much more beneficial for businesses to invest in a private cloud. While some may want to invest for peace of mind, others may need it for compliance reasons.

Here at Hostirian, we can host private clouds around the world. We are the third-largest data center in the St. Louis area. If you have any questions about a private cloud and what it can do for you or your business, fill out this form and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible!

Top 5 Technology Trends in 2020

If we have gained anything from 2020, it is the knowledge that things can change at the drop of a hat. At this point, I’m sure that we are all ready for 2021 and what it has in store. Looking back at the year, we can see how things not only changed socially, but they changed technologically. We have depended on technology during this past year more than ever. Through socially-distanced tasks and increased hygiene practices, technology has been there through it all to make it possible.

Think about what would have happened if we did not have modern technology to carry us through this time. You may not have even given it a second thought. Technology has not only aided in keeping millions of people safe during this global pandemic, but it has also been constantly developing to help us in other ways of life as well. The year has certainly been a year of change and development. Technology has been at the forefront of that change. Although technology will always be evolving and changing, this year specifically should be recognized for its advances in technology. Here are some of the latest technologies of this year that are sure to influence people for years to come.

1. Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an expansive branch of computer science that deals with building machines capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. In its essence, it equips computer systems with the ability to make decisions like humans. AI is actually one of the top trending technologies of the modern day. It imitates human intelligence by performing tasks such as speech and pattern recognition, weather forecast, and much more.

AI is becoming a bigger piece to our lives as technology evolves. Machines and technology are evolving into human-like things that can recognize when they do something wrong and also make improvements.

You may recognize AI in varying applications such as Uber, Siri, Google, Bing, Netflix, Amazon, Facebook and many more. Scientists expect Artificial Intelligence to create more than 70 million jobs. Although it’s creating so many more opportunities, it’s also taking away nearly 25 million jobs. AI is expected to create jobs such as maintenance, programming, data science, testing, support, and much more. This modern piece of technology will only become better and smarter as the years go on.

2. Virtual Reality

Virtual reality is a computer generated simulation that allows users to experience a three-dimensional environment that can be interacted with in a seemingly real or physical way by a person using special electronic equipment. It has become a very popular way for people to experience video games. In comparison to traditional video games, a virtual reality allows users to be right in the environment. These virtual environments stimulate tons of different senses, such as touch, smell and vision. People can experience VR most often on headsets. Companies like Facebook and Sony have taken full advantage of the potential of the technology and created their own version of virtual reality, such as Facebook’s Oculus Rift, Sony’s PlayStation VR, and HTC Vive.

Virtual reality is not only used for video games or entertainment purposes, but it has also been adopted by the military for training. The three branches that use this are the Army, Navy and Air Force. Augmented reality and virtual reality are also used by doctors, museums, amusement parks and many more. The virtual reality industry is expected to bring in nearly $40 billion by 2021.

3. Robotic Process Automation

Robotic Process Automation, or RPA, is the technology that allows anyone today to configure computer software, or a “robot”, to emulate the actions of a human interacting with digital systems to execute a business process. Essentially, it is a technology used for automating daily tasks. This type of technology is similar to Artificial Intelligence. The RPA technology is used for automating business tasks, such as replying to emails, handling business data, and processing transactions. RPA is capable of automating more than 40% of daily tasks. It might scare some people to know that RPA is technologically advancing far enough to take over a lot of jobs. Fortunately, it will create a lot of jobs too. Many businesses rely on RPA because of its many benefits. There are many companies that provide RPA tools such as Blue Prism, Pega Systems, and Work Fusion.

4. Data Science

Data Science is technology that helps make sense of difficult data. It is an interdisciplinary field that uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms, and systems to extract knowledge and insights from many types of data. Companies produce an immense amount of data every single day, including business, sales, customer profile information, financial information, and server data. Data scientists then take that data created and convert the unstructured data into structured data. Data scientists analyze this data in hopes of finding patterns. Those patterns are incredibly helpful in understanding the background of a company, such as looking at customer retention, business performance, finances and how those areas can be improved. How far technology has evolved, am I right?

5. Edge Computing

Believe it or not, edge computing is one of today’s most favored technologies. Edge computing is truly transforming the way data is being handled, processed, and delivered around the world. It actually brings computation and data storage closer to devices where it’s being gathered, instead of relying on a central location that could potentially be thousands of miles away. Edge computing essentially allows data from Internet of Things (IOT) devices to be analyzed at the edge of the network before being sent to the data center or cloud. Edge computing has been around for awhile. It has just been advancing in little ways over time. The technology was created to bring computing power as close as possible to its data source. It is estimated that by 2022 the edge computing market will be worth $7 billion. Edge computing is popular in retail, healthcare, manufacturing and many other jobs.

This year has brought many changes. Technology has been right there with those changes, advancing and evolving along with modern times. Technology is something that will always be advancing. If we’re not careful, some of these advances may take over our jobs! Just kidding… At the moment, we should enjoy all that today’s technology has to offer and hopefully gain a better understanding of how it works.

How Do I Promote My Podcast?

You started a podcast. Now you’re wondering how you’re supposed to promote it. How do you grow your podcast, gain more followers and become podcast famous? Well, I can’t guarantee you will be a famous podcaster right away, but including these tactics into your marketing strategy will help you get there.

I’m getting ahead of myself. Before you jump right into the idea of being “famous”, you need to create the building blocks of your foundation. In this case, your “building blocks” are the different ways that you should be promoting your platform.

Let’s step back even further. Before you even begin marketing your podcast, you should first evaluate the product that you are trying to “sell” to your audience. The two most important things about a podcast are time and quality content. The quality of your podcast is so much more important than you think. Marketing a bad product will do nothing for you except waste your time. You need to make sure that your current product is something worth promoting!

You will know that you have a good product when you are producing valuable, attention-grabbing, and unique content. The most important piece of this is value. You will have a much easier time promoting a podcast that provides value to your audience. This is because you will be giving your viewers an incentive to listen! While you are creating this content, keep in mind that it takes time and patience for a podcast to grow. A city isn’t built in a day, right? Don’t get discouraged if your podcast doesn’t grow as quickly as you hoped it would. Growing an audience takes time, work and dedication. Focus on creating valuable content. When you are creating the right content with added value, the audience will follow. Just give it some time!

When you’re confident that you are producing high-quality content, then you can focus on the ways that you will market your podcast. While cruising the Internet for the perfect podcast marketing strategies, you may have noticed that there are tons of different websites offering their own version of advice. All of the options available may leave you wondering what you should do! Among the chaos of options, keep your eyes focused on your audience. Your podcast will not be for everyone. You have niched down your podcast enough to where your audience is a specific group of people. You should first learn about your audience and then cater your marketing strategies around those people. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different marketing strategies to test what will work! Again, this process will take time. Be patient with yourself and the process.

Most podcasters use basic techniques to promote their podcast. Remember to pay attention to your audience and build your marketing strategy based on that.

1. Encourage your listeners to take action

This should be a no-brainer, but you should be encouraging your audience to subscribe, share, and leave feedback on your content. If you are not asking your audience to do the very thing you need them to do to grow your podcast, then what are you doing? Use the spare time you have at the beginning and end of each episode to promote your podcast! Don’t be afraid to be genuine about it either. Explain that their feedback and support will give you the foundation to produce better content for them to enjoy.

2. Strategize your publishing

If you are a brand new podcaster, you may not know that it is crucial that you publish your podcast at the right time. If you already knew that, great! Start paying more attention to it! The time in which you post your content may decide your success. If you are not sure where to start, look at other podcasts similar to yours and see if there is a trend. Look at when they post their content and how much success they have had with posting at that time. If you notice a trend in posting, consider that for your own podcast. You may also consider experimenting when you post your episodes. From there, you will gain valuable analytics that will help you figure out the best time to post in the future.

3. Submit your podcast

You will want to make sure that you submit your podcast to apps that play podcasts, most commonly known as a podcatcher or an aggregator. Having your podcast listed on several different apps will expand your audience and help you become more visible! Create accounts in places like Google Play, Spotify, Tunein, iHeartRadio, SoundCloud, Podbay, Podtail, and many more. Once you’ve created accounts, submit your RSS feed to every podcast directory so that your podcasts will automatically upload every week.

4. Network with podcasters

Another way that you can get your podcast out there is by joining a group of other podcasters. In addition to making some new friends, you may also find yourself learning a thing or two that will help grow your podcast. That community of podcasters may offer support, help you with podcast troubles, or give you new ideas for content. Joining a group of podcasters may be one of the best decisions you could make for the future of your podcast. If anything, it might be nice to just have a community who understands your challenges.

5. Use the Word-of-Mouth Method

What an old tactic, right? You may be surprised to hear that this old tactic can actually do some good for your podcast. It’s actually one of the most effective marketing strategies known today. The first step is spreading the word in the right place. Find conferences, local events, or a group that has an interest in the topic of your podcast and spread the word as much as you can! Don’t be afraid to really market yourself and your niche. If you find a group of people who are already interested in your podcast topic, it won’t be hard to reel them in. Networking will be a huge asset to your podcast. You could even encourage your friends and family to spread the word to their friends and family.

While I’ve only provided five ways that you can promote your podcast, they are a great place to start. I previously mentioned that first focusing on the content that you’re creating is the most important thing that you can do. Focus on creating valuable content and pinpointing your audience so that you have a better idea of your marketing strategy. In the meantime, consider starting a website for your podcast!

We are upgrading the reliability and redundancy of our network

Understanding that high network reliability is the lifeblood of our clients, we are implementing network upgrades in a series of maintenance windows starting this August and lasting through September 2018. Why more than one maintenance window? Best practice mandates minimizing introducing too many variables at one time. In fact, over the past two decades, Hostirian has systematically implemented strategies to keep pace with technological advances.

“Our network is continually evolving in order to effectively maintain a redundant network with no single point of failure,”  said Dakota Jones, Hostirian’s Director of Network Operations.

To accomplish this with minimal disruption to our clients, we routinely schedule an orderly and well-prepared series of maintenance windows during time frames outside of peak business hours.

“Our goal,” according to Sascha Wintz, Vice President of Hostirian, “is to maintain a scalable and highly reliable network according to current standards.”

As always, we’re here to help 24 x 7 x Forever. Our support staff is physically located in the data-center so if you have an issue with your service, we are here to help you resolve that issue immediately. You do not have to wait or play phone tag to get ahold of someone who can actually help you with your problem.
