What are Hashtags? How do you use Them?

hashtag

Hashtags are what we use to label and categorize information on online platforms. A hashtag is the pound/number key, followed by a series of letters, words, or phrases that have no spaces in between. They can be used to tag and post relevant information to an online platform like Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and many more. When they are posted, the information is tagged and is easily searchable within that social platform.

Where should I be using hashtags?

You can use hashtags on most social media sites but they work differently depending on which platform you use. Twitter is the most well-known social media site that utilizes hashtags because it is an easy way to categorize information within 280 words. You can use them in any tweet or comment, as well as in your bio. They can be a great way to join the conversation about people, things, movements, or ideas that you or your business may follow. Twitter also allows its users to search via hashtag and keeps a list of the hashtags that are currently trending.

Instagram is another social media platform where hashtags are almost always implemented when uploading something new. Hashtags can be used on Instagram Stories, bios, and searched for on the explore tab. What’s different about Instagram in comparison to Twitter is that you can actually follow specific hashtags instead of just accounts. This means that you will receive content from multiple different creators that post something with that specific tag under it.

Hashtags on other social platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, etc. function similarly to those mentioned above. They may differ slightly, but the act of tagging content in order for users to find it is all relatively the same. Hashtags are important on any social platform, but Twitter and Instagram arguably utilize them the most.

Finding your audience

As mentioned before, users can easily search for specific content through hashtags, so this is a great way to reach new people! It is important to find the right balance between trending tags and niche tags. For example, if you only tag things that are trending right now, your content has a good chance of getting lost with all of the other posts under the same tag. Finding somewhat niche and specific tags could help to target people who are specifically interested in what you are promoting or selling.

Don’t overdo it

One of the biggest unspoken rules about hashtags is to not overdo it! Don’t include too many tags in a post, or else it starts to look cluttered and not as professional. Twitter has a character limit, but Instagram does not. This makes it really easy for users to over-tag their content. Five to ten hashtags on an Instagram post are more than enough to be found online. Another thing to keep into consideration is that you should caption posts on Instagram before tagging them. No one wants to read hashtags as the caption. They should come after.

Resources to improve your hashtags

You may be wondering how to find what hashtags are trending right now, so here are some resources! RiteTag and Hashtagify.me are both websites that analyze what is trending right now. They both are free to an extent, but some content is restricted to paying customers only. Regardless, if you need help with creating hashtags, these are a great way to see what people care and are talking about online right now.

7 Things you can Accomplish with the Cloud

woman looking at the cloud

The Cloud and its technologies can help companies save a ton of cash by taking away the burden of acquiring servers, software, and the people required to provide enterprise services. It also helps with the deployment of shared technology solutions, which are very important in supporting the mission of the business.

Most vendors use infrastructure, software, and servers to provide specialized services to the organization. Cloud computing helps organizations by providing scalable and dynamic computing resources over the Internet. These computing services are delivered virtually through online servers and data centers to anyone who can access the network. Listed below are seven different things that you can accomplish y switching to the Cloud!

1. It allows you to implement new things

Cloud computing provides many benefits that include email, file storage, calendars, documents, and more! Some cloud computing providers like Google provide a tool that can help you to compare Google mail costing versus Microsoft Exchange. Others like Astadia will provide a basic tool used for calculating your return for investing in cloud services. If you are planning to introduce something new, you can use social media as a platform to raise awareness.

2. Protects your company’s data

This is an incredibly important function that comes with cloud computing and is provided by your service provider. A good example is when you use a meeting management tool that is available online and it provides a low risk. Users have little control over where the provider stores their data. The storage could be in a different country that has different privacy laws. This function is a deal-breaker for organizations that work with vulnerable communities such as asylum seekers and refugees.

3. You can stay connected

Cloud computing encompasses social media tools that include Twitter and Facebook, which help users to stay connected. This impacts every business that uses social media as a marketing tool or as a way to connect with customers. Social media is a proven method of improving and growing a business’s online presence. It would be hard to operate without one!

4. Recover Data

The cloud is very successful when it has been pre-configured for disaster recovery. The cloud recovery plan is an important application that works automatically when data or a server crashes. Because of this, it helps to recover the data at the earliest time possible. By incorporating these applications, this can be an efficient platform to manage PaaS, SaaS, and IaaS competitively.

5. Optimize the Existing Resources

If your company is facing a tough time managing software and hardware, or your servers are running low and there is limited space left, then look for cloud services. With cloud services, your existing servers will get a rest from being overloaded and your company’s work environment will be synchronized. Utilizing the cloud for your business also allows you to cut the cost of infrastructure maintenance or repair if something were to go wrong.

6. Enhancing Device Independence

Cloud service helps to reduce the worries of tracking your software and hardware devices. The cloud enables you to move from a physical world into a new virtual world, and you won’t have to think about what is going on at the in-house IT department. You can let a cloud manager do the hard work of getting rid of that expensive software and hardware.

7. Cut Cost

Don’t lag behind when everyone is quickly moving to cloud technology and starting to enjoy a cost-effective business environment. This technology will promote device independence and automatically reduce the cost of physical software and hardware.

Cloud computing is currently the most promising IT technology in the world today. Most companies are now using cloud services and are achieving a multitude of desired goals. Cloud computing provides many applications to businesses that are beneficial in the long run.

Is Cloud Computing Safe?

Cloud computing is a revolution in the world of Internet technology. It has made a variety of new things possible and much more efficient, such as saving time, energy, and costs!

However, there are positives and negatives to this revolutionary technology. Although the cloud has opened up all of these “never-before-seen” opportunities, there are several concerns by clients – especially when it comes to the issue of safety. Since the mechanisms of the cloud are controlled by people in unknown locations, there is genuine fear about the safety and security of personal data.

What are the safety concerns?

There are two major concerns when it comes to cloud safety. The first is the thought of hackers having access to your information by illegal or unauthorized persons. This can lead to a compromise of classified or private information. Hackers can actually capitalize from your data or use it to cripple your business. The second concern is the malfunction of the infrastructure by the cloud storage service provider. There are a few companies out there that have collapsed and lost vital client data forever because of this. While there is a very small chance of this happening, many are still wary about the potential it has to collapse a business.

There is no question that these concerns are real. However, the answer to safety lies with the cloud service provider. Before you register a free account or hire the services of a cloud storage company, read about their terms and conditions. In fact, ask about these safety concerns.

You will be amazed at some of the safety policies out there. Just in case data was compromised or lost, the company must have a cause of action that is supposed to remedy your problem. Many companies will state that their safety policies are top-notch and that there is no fear whatsoever of such happenings.

How do I protect myself?

Obviously, it is not enough to just hear the words; you need to be protected in writing. So yes, the fears pertaining to safety are very real – make sure you are covered in the contract or agreement you sign just before you get access to their services.

You want to work with a cloud service provider that stores a backup copy of all your data. In addition, you need to know what procedures to follow in case something bad were to happen and your data was compromised. With this assurance and knowledge, it is much better to operate in a cloud. It is always wise to work with companies that have been seen to perform better in this area, though. Not every cloud storage service is worth considering. With that being said, we’ll make the decision easy on you and refer you to our services! Our services and staff are the BEST!

In life, there are no guarantees and in this regard, you need to be prepared with an assurance from the cloud service provider. Also, be very keen and conduct thorough research and know what the law in your area says about cloud safety. Don’t stop there! The country where the dedicated private servers are stored will have certain laws governing the operations; seek to find out whether you can find proper reprieve if anything goes wrong in a different location.

Is cloud computing safe?

To answer the question: yes, cloud computing is absolutely safe. While there might be some flaws and drawbacks, the benefits of cloud computing outweigh the bad. If you’re nervous about something going wrong, be proactive and have a plan. Cases of hacking and loss of databases in the cloud are very rare, but they can happen. So, if it does, be prepared! You most likely won’t need to worry about any of that happening, especially if we are your cloud provider!

What is a VPN? How Does it Help Me?

A VPN, or a Virtual Private Network, is exactly how it sounds! In its essence, a VPN helps you create a secure and private connection between your computer or device and another network over the Internet. It uses encryption and other technologies to help you ensure that your Internet activity is safe from hackers and cybercriminals who may be lurking around when you’re using public wifi. Using a VPN to connect to the Internet allows you to surf websites privately and securely, as well as have access to restricted websites and overcome censorship blocks. In very simple terms, a VPN connects your PC, smartphone, or tablet to another server on the Internet and allows you to browse using that computer’s Internet connection.

Think about your home computer and its connection to the Internet. In most cases, there is a direct connection between your home computer and the Internet. Because of this, it’s very easy for cybercriminals to find you and attack your personal data. This is where the VPN comes in. A VPN connects your computer to a server located anywhere else in the world before making that connection to the Internet. Because there is no direct line between your computer and the Internet, cybercriminals don’t have a place to locate you and cannot attack your personal data.

How does it help me?

No matter your purpose, having a VPN can be more than worthwhile. There are a variety of different things that you can achieve with them.

You can use a VPN to:

  1. Bypass geographic restrictions on websites or streaming audio/video
  2. Watch streaming media like Netflix and Hulu
  3. Protect yourself from snooping on untrustworthy WIFI spots
  4. Gain some anonymity online by hiding your location
  5. Protect yourself by torrenting

Many people nowadays use a VPN for torrenting or bypassing geographic restrictions to watch content in a different country. VPNs are still a great way to protect yourself when using public wifi, but that’s not its only use anymore! While the examples above are all very relevant, VPNs capable of so much more. VPNs can allow you to access a business network while traveling, access your home network while traveling, hide your browsing activity from your local network and ISP, access geo-blocked websites, bypass Internet censorship, and download files.

When you connect to a VPN, you have a large choice of servers to connect to and each of those servers are located in different cities and countries. Once you’re connected, your computer will assume that you are connected to whichever city or country you have chosen the server from. For example, if there is Netflix series only available in Canada, you can connect to a server in Canada and watch the series without having to leave your house.

How do you get a VPN?

Depending on your needs, you can either use a VPN from your workplace, create one yourself using a service, have one created for you (we can do that for you) or even host one out of your house. If you want a way to create a VPN quickly and easily, there are a ton of websites out there that allow you to make one on your own. Websites like ExpressVPN, StrongVPN, and Tunnelbear are some of the most popular places that you can create a VPN. If you would rather have a physical piece of equipment that you can connect to your computer, just give us a call! We would be happy to create one for you.
